Vowels.

A vowel stands on its own at the start of a word and becomes a kar when it follows a consonant. Both forms come from the same keys.

02 — ব্যঞ্জনবর্ণ

Consonants.

Where more than one spelling is listed, every one of them produces the same letter. The first is the shortest way to reach it.

03 — যুক্তাক্ষর

Conjuncts.

Conjuncts form on their own as you type the consonants in sequence. These 132 have an explicit rule, so they resolve exactly, every time.

04 — চিহ্ন

Marks and punctuation.

05 — সংখ্যা

Digits.

Bangla numerals are optional and can be switched off in settings, in which case the keyboard leaves Latin digits alone.

06 — Resolution

How an ambiguous spelling resolves.

1. The longest rule wins

   Rules are matched longest-first, so ksh becomes ক্ষ rather than ক + শ, and chh becomes ছ rather than চ + হ.

   লম্বা নিয়মটাই আগে মেলে — তাই ksh লিখলে ক্ষ হয়, ক + শ নয়।

2. Case is meaningful

   Capitals reach the retroflex and alternate letters: t is ত but T is ট, d is দ but D is ড, s is স but S is শ.

   ছোট-বড় হাতের অক্ষরে ফল আলাদা — t দিলে ত, T দিলে ট।

3. An extra letter changes the word

   Every Latin letter counts. nirvoye gives নির্ভয়ে, while the extra final y in nirvoyey adds another য় and gives নির্ভয়েয়.

   প্রতিটি অক্ষরই গোনা হয়। nirvoye দিলে নির্ভয়ে, আর শেষে বাড়তি y দিলে নির্ভয়েয়।

4. The suggestion bar is the shortcut

   You do not have to memorise any of this. Type roughly what you hear and pick the word from the suggestion bar — the keyboard also carries 2,004 spelling overrides for words that do not follow the rules.
